The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique 500 352 lftCerGLZJ

The Alexander Technique is an educational approach to personal wellness through self-conscious movement and poise.

Ted Gibboney is a career church musician, holding prominent positions in three states while also pursuing a performing and teaching career in Europe and throughout the US. When the pain and stiffness of spinal arthritis threatened his organ playing, the study of Alexander Technique brought about dramatic relief. He resumed his performing career and was inspired to pursue the extensive three-year teacher certification for the AT. In 2015 he was certified as an AT instructor, and opened a private practice for private and group teaching. Although his activity as a practicing musician makes his work especially relevant for musicians, the freedom and ease of movement that are hallmarks of the AT address a wide range of repetitive stress and developmental issues that many face in this mechanized, computerized age.

In order to expand his knowledge of anatomy and refine his palpation skills, in 2017 he began study of Cranial Sacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute. He takes exams for certification in this life-giving discipline in 2020.

Child in Bloom

Renee Mattson is the founder of Child in Bloom parent and educational coaching. Renee and her husband Toby are in the middle of raising their three children who are 18, 16, and 11. She continually finds herself drawn to children, parents and teachers in need of support during difficult times. Renee is a master teacher and coach with 24 years experience in the field of education where she has held the following roles:

  • Licensed intervention specialist for learning and behavior and gifted needs within public and private schools around Ohio and Kentucky,
  • Adjunct Faculty member at Xavier University’s School of Education where she works with undergrad and masters level students in Special Education
  • Master Coach trained through the Family Infant Preschool Program (a research based program used for early intervention in 58 counties in Ohio).

Renee’s approach to coaching is based on the principle of parents are their child’s first teacher. Parents therefore need to assume nothing and teach, model, and practice everything. She offers parents a balanced approach that is clear, matter of fact, and encourages self-regulation of the parent and child. Parents who hear her presentations walk away saying, “I could listen to Renee all night.” or “Wow! I finally have some tools in my back pocket!” Renee presents to large and small groups and focuses much of her practice on individual observations and conversations in person or on the phone.

Deaconess
Deaconess 500 352 lftCerGLZJ

The Deaconess Foundation is a not-for-profit enterprise that provides a range of health services, programs, and community initiatives in Greater Cincinnati. The aim is to serve people who are vulnerable to health-related problems and rely on community support to meet basic healthcare needs. We respond to causes that focus on at-risk youth, the homeless, the addicted, the elderly, and others who require community support to improve their quality of life.

More than 40% of our population is less than one paycheck away from homelessness and couldn’t afford a $400 emergency (or out of pocket deductible). And, the percentage of Cincinnati and Hamilton County residents younger than 18 living in poverty is the highest it has been in five years. With this and healthcare prices in mind, Deaconess developed a response – the Mobile Deaconess Health Check.

Access to comprehensive, quality healthcare is critical for maintaining health, preventing and managing disease/chronic conditions, reducing unnecessary disability, and achieving health equity for all. Our mobile van reaches those without resource or access in the neighborhoods where they live, including: at Christ Church Cathedral, the Salvation Army-Norwood, St. Vincent de Paul, and the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter in Cincinnati.

We are here to serve you, whether you have insurance or not.

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL COMPANIONSHIP?

Spiritual Companionship, also known as Spiritual Direction, is a way of offering companionship to people who are seeking God and a greater sense of themselves. It is non-judgmental and generous, and always trusts that the seeker knows more about their own life, thoughts, and longings than the companion/director does. The companion’s role is to listen carefully, invite the presence of the Holy Spirit, practice compassion, and ask questions that will help the seeker grow in wisdom and grace.

is spiritual companionship right for you?

Why am I here?
Who am I, really?
What is my purpose in life?
How am I connected to others, and to God?
How can I live gracefully with joy, pain, loss, and hope?
What needs to change in my in order for me to love my neighbor as myself?
How can I gain the freedom that I need in order to offer my gifts to the world?
If these are your questions, then Spiritual Companionship is right for you. And you’re not alone in asking these questions — they’re at the heart of our hope and our faith. Saints and wisdom seekers have been speaking to these questions for all of Christian history, and Spiritual Companions are in constant conversation with the spiritual traditions of both today and of the past. Companions are experienced teachers of prayer practices and the use of meditation in daily life, and can accompany you through moments of transformation and all the changes that they bring.

Karl Stevens, Diana Shirley, Kathleen McFalls, Leslie Flemming, and Hawley Todd are all spiritual companions, and part of the larger community of spiritual companions in the Diocese of Southern Ohio.
