Renee Mattson is the founder of Child in Bloom parent and educational coaching. Renee and her husband Toby are in the middle of raising their three children who are 18, 16, and 11. She continually finds herself drawn to children, parents and teachers in need of support during difficult times. Renee is a master teacher and coach with 24 years experience in the field of education where she has held the following roles:
- Licensed intervention specialist for learning and behavior and gifted needs within public and private schools around Ohio and Kentucky,
- Adjunct Faculty member at Xavier University’s School of Education where she works with undergrad and masters level students in Special Education
- Master Coach trained through the Family Infant Preschool Program (a research based program used for early intervention in 58 counties in Ohio).
Renee’s approach to coaching is based on the principle of parents are their child’s first teacher. Parents therefore need to assume nothing and teach, model, and practice everything. She offers parents a balanced approach that is clear, matter of fact, and encourages self-regulation of the parent and child. Parents who hear her presentations walk away saying, “I could listen to Renee all night.” or “Wow! I finally have some tools in my back pocket!” Renee presents to large and small groups and focuses much of her practice on individual observations and conversations in person or on the phone.
